I am not trying to be non-patriotic or anti-American in this.
What inspired this was my experiences with everyday people who don't want to discuss the painful moments in our history but rather shroud themselves in patriotic fervor. A fervor that doesn't allow for dialogue or understanding of our past.
But, in reality you can't cover all of those wrongs with a shade of red-white-and-blue.
It is okay to talk about the past, it is patriotic to do so. Don't hide the past, seek it, and learn from it.
Note: The image of the Indian is from the Wannamaker Expedition in the 1920's, I used it because I felt that a historical image would best fit the concept.
